Camponotus Ca02 - Ant's journal
This journal is about a colony of Camponotus Ca02. The colony has been in my care for 6.5 months and started as a single queen without any brood. In the meantime, she is raising her third batch of workers. I had already brought this species to its first batch last year but sold the colony afterward, as I wanted to focus on other species at the time. However, I had already grown quite fond of them back then, which is why I decided to acquire a new colony. This time, nothing stands in the way of keeping them long-term. At the beginning of April, the queen arrived alone, and I had to relocate her right away since her old test tube had completely dried out.

By the end of June, the first worker hatched.

After three more workers hatched, I offered them a Wakooshi Founding Module nest with an integrated outworld, which they currently inhabit.
These pictures were taken at the end of August. As you can see, there’s a healthy amount of brood, and the first pupae of the second generation are close to hatching.

When I returned from my trip on September 30th, the number of workers had more than doubled.

Re: Camponotus Ca02 - Ant's journal
The colony now has around 15 workers. With temperatures dropping in my room (21–22 °C), the colony has moved into the left chamber of the nest, which I keep heated. The number of larvae and pupae currently seems a bit low, but there are two separate egg clusters with about 8–12 eggs each. If these develop into workers, it will probably be time to start thinking about a new nest. I find the coloration of this species absolutely stunning—especially in physogastric workers, and now even slightly in the queen, where light lines blend into the dark orange.
